About this Event

South Indian food is about as diverse as the region it originates from. Encompassing South Indian states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, and Kerala, this vast region boasts of world’s most coveted ingredients like curry leaves, peppercorns, tamarind and coconut. With over dozens of languages found in this region, South India represents a diverse spectrum of cultures and cuisines. Meals are centered around rice or rice-based dishes accompanied with a variety of vegetarian and meat options.

Dishes you will learn in this Cooking Class:

Traditional Dosa (Rice and Lentil Crepes)
Crispy, savory, and perfect for every time of day, a delicious dosa is one of the defining dishes of South Indian cuisine. This tasty treat is an incredibly thin, incredibly delicious crepe made up of fermented lentil and rice batter. Dosas have now become a very popular street food across India and can be eaten as a snack, as breakfast, or really anytime of the day. (Gluten Free, Vegan)

Adai Dosa (Crepes made with with 4 different lentils)
Extremely nutritious, and cpaked with protein, this version of crepes is a hot favorite. (Gluten Free, Vegan)

Peanut Chutney
A perfect accompaniment with Dosas, this chutney (dip) is made with roasted peanuts, chillies and curry leaves.

Spiced potatoes
These are lightly spiced potatoes cooked with onions, tumeric and curry leaves. Can be served with dosas or with Indian flatbread.

Sambhar
A lentil based stew with loads of vegetables and tamarind. Can be served with dosas or as a meal with rice.

About the Host

Born and brought up in a Himalayan State in India, Babita learned to cook from her mom. Having traveled extensively, she experienced uniqueness of cooking methods and spices of various cultures. For over 15 years, she has been making balanced, nutritious, seasonal cuisine with natural and robust flavors. She has hosted various cooking classes that dive deep into the different regions of India.

She is the founder of BeBe’s Kitchen – a women-run social enterprise that supports aspiring refugee and immigrant chefs through immersive culinary experiences that go beyond food.
